2021 so far.

These last 5 years have been a complete rollercoaster, since our first daughter was born. All of my free time has been taken up in one form or another. Been pretty productive, just horrible about blogging anything. Thank you to those of you that have stood by us through and through!!!!!

This last year we did manage to get out and about more, but still staying close to home. My own family hasn’t seem us in over three years now, and most of them have only met little Leyla once. We hope to plan a trip back to Michigan in the near future, it’s just challenging to travel with young ones. History has us on edge as well, since 100% of the time we have caught a cold while traveling. So, we are still holding down the fort, here in Everett WA.

We did a little renovations in the Tiny House bathroom. We had just about enough of this stinky system. My guests were informing me about the oder from the toilet, and I knew it needed to be remedied. So, we upgraded our system.

First we needed to rip everything out. We realized that our new system was going to need electrical hookups, so we took out the back wall to run wire for an outlet at the back of the toilet.

We took power from the existing outlet and split the wire to run down the back wall. Had to make a few holes in our loft beams, but it got the job done. We didn’t want to replace all of the boards on the back wall, so we did just enough to get us where we needed.

We needed to cut a vent hole in the flooring, and thankfully for us, we planned accordingly when we designed the house. We managed to miss any floor beams which made for a smooth transition for the pipe to vent out the bottom of the house.

It fits!!! Note the cat hole, this is where our kitties use to go to use the litter, which was located beneath out living room cabinet. Will now make for a great access point for the vent.

The large pipe is for the vent and the small hose is for the urine to make its way out of the house.

We decided to build a bump out since the wall wasn’t thick enough for the pipes to fit within. We are loosing space in the bathroom, but it will feel much bigger once its done.

I just did a simple 2x2 frame that I can put my leftover interior knotty pine up.

Filling in the holes. I decided to do something different with this wall. I wanted to create a contrast wall here, so to break up all the white. I also added a shelf on top of the bump out for storage. You can now see where we added the extra outlet at the back of the toilet.

We decided to go with a Separett composting toilet.

And it’s all done! What do you think, was it an upgrade? I love how it came out and is a much more usable space.

Sean’s progress is interior based. He’s still waiting for his roofing material to arrive. Working on some exterior insulation and roof insulation. This photo was from February 2021.

Did more trenching work, as we had to bring our waterline to the furthest power hookup. This will be the future water line for Sean’s House.

All filled in! And the making for a very muddy springtime.

This was definitely the year for backyard renovations. We did our trenching for the waterline, leveled the backyard and did some landscaping at the back of the main house.

Lots and lots of dirt was delivered.

First thing we had to do was tear up the grass… I mean weeds… lots of weeds.

Then we put down a looooooooot of dirt. Make it level! We also decided to build a above ground bed/transition point in the ground.

We purchased a few more fruit trees for the property. Two pear, one cherry, and a blueberry bush. We also picked up three more raspberry bushes for the privacy screening just outside out backdoor.

Put down lots and lots of grass seed… took about 4 weeks for it to grow in fully. This was at about April/May.

We love the way it all turned out! Has much more defined areas and is much more inviting.

Added some outside lighting around the fire pit and oh it makes it feel so cozy!
